Dichtomatik's axial face seals are a combination of the high speed capacity of
standard mechanical seals with the simplicity of radial lip seals. Designed to
be fixed on the shaft, they seal axially against a perpendicular counterface
whether it is the housing itself or a bearing outer surface. They can be
utilized as either a primary or a backup seal and do an excellent job as a
deflector of foreign materials, especially at higher speeds.
The AF series is a two-piece seal, composed of a rubber sealing member and a
metal case. The case press fits onto the shaft, protects the inner sealing
member and acts as an outstanding deflector for heavier foreign materials,
dirt, sand, etc. This also comes in two types, the standard AFS and the AFX,
which have an extended outer case meant to fit into a groove in the counterface
to provide extra sealing protection.
Typical applications for axial face seals are all types of agricultural
applications, electric motors, appliances, wheel hubs, power saws, and ball and
roller bearings. Combined with radial shaft seals, these axial face seal
designs provide excellent excluding characteristics against all types of
liquids, greases, oils, dirt, sand and other foreign materials.
